Mechkarov v Citibank NA UKEAT/0006/19/OO

Appeal against the ET’s rejection of the Claimant’s claims for direct race discrimination and victimisation. Appeal dismissed.

The Claimant, a Bulgarian citizen, worked for the Respondent until he took voluntary redundancy as a result of ill-health, and a settlement agreement was concluded between the parties. When the Claimant was looking for work again, he had a number of meetings with employees of the Respondent; these did not lead to any offers of employment but, instead, gave rise to his allegations of direct race discrimination and victimisation. The ET dismissed the claims, and the Claimant appealed.

The EAT held that none of the grounds of appeal had merit and the appeal was dismissed.
