Appeal against the ET’s rejection of the Claimant’s complaints of unfair dismissal and wrongful dismissal. Appeal dismissed.

The Claimant, who has dual Ghanaian and UK citizenship, was a senior employee of the Respondent. Following an incident where, apparently, the Claimant had received a substantial amount of cash from the King of the Ashanti people to be deposited in the King's accounts with the Respondent, the Claimant was summarily dismissed for gross misconduct and/or gross negligence. His claims of unfair dismissal and wrongful dismissal were rejected by the ET, and he appealed on a number of grounds, including in relation to the Respondent's lack of compliance as a bank, and the disparity between the treatment of the Claimant and the Chief Executive Officer of the Respondent regarding the incident.

The EAT held that the ET had not erred in law and, consequently, its judgment would be upheld.
