Single Employment Tribunal claims up 64% on previous quarter

Increase "could be due to the abolition of Employment Tribunal Fees on 26 July 2017"

The number of claims received by the Employment Tribunal has risen to its highest level for 4 years, the latest MoJ figures have revealed.

7,042 claims were received between July & September this year compared to a a stable average of 4,200 receipts in the period when fees were in force. At the same time disposals decreased by 15 resulting in a 37% increase in the outstanding caseload.

Though multiple clams were down 15%, the outstanding caseload for these claims still rose 13%.

Of the cases disposed of during the period 22% were Acas conciliated settlements, 40% were dismissed upon withdrawal, 8% were withdrawn, and 5% were successful at hearing.

The most common jurisdictional complaint disposed of was 'Unauthorised deductions (formerly Wages Act)'.
