NHS employees get updated guidance on whistleblowing

Updated Handbook to the NHS Constitution sets out NHS employee rights, responsibilities and duty of candour.

NHS employees have been issued with updated guidance on their employment rights and responsibilities as part of the refreshed NHS Consititution published today.

The Handbook for the NHS Consitution accompanies the updated Constitution and from page 100 onwards details the rights and responsibilities of NHS staff towards each other, to their patients and to the wider public.

In particular, from page 143 there is guidance on the new duty of candour and what staff should do if they have a genuine concern about "risk or malpractice or wrongdoing" at work.

The Handbook and Constitution can be downloaded from the gov.uk website here.

The Handbook comes in the wake of additional guidance from the GMC on the issue.
