Employment Tribunal Statistics: single claims up 3% in last quarter

Figures for Oct-Dec 2016 published

The Ministry of Justice has published its latest provisional quarterly statistics for Employment Tribunals covering October to December 2016.

The headline figure is that 4,355 single claims were received, up 3% from the same period last year.

Other figures to note are that:

* around 60% of fee remisssion applications are granted, a level that the MoJ says has 'stabilised' since the introduction of fees in 2013 * 4,760 multiple claims were received, down 65%. The claims related to 231 multiple claim cases (an average of 21 claims per multiple case), a decrease of 22% on the same period last year when there were 298 multiple claims cases, with an average of 46 claims per case. * 10,922 claims were disposed of, up 8% overall on the same period in 2015, but for single claims only disposals were down 8%. * 37% of jurisdictional complaints disposed of were Acas conciliated settlements, 16% were withdrawn, and 5% were successful at hearing. * the most common jurisdictional complaint disposed of in this quarter was 'Equal Pay' * the total caseload outstanding for Employment Tribunals at the end of December 2016 was 253,637, the majority (96%) relating to multiple claims leaving roughly 10,000 single claims in the system.
